110 galleries, 4 days – the Viennese art fair has begun. Only the term „fair“ does not sufficently cover what Vienna Contemporary is: there is a vast supporting program offering guided tours, film screenings, talks and lectures, familiy activities, and much more. It would be very easy to spend all four days there, if you want a throrough look at all the exposits; if you wish to ramble around in quiet, it would be recommendable to pay it a visit on one of the last days.
Of course one has to admit that it is not in a fair´s nature to provide room for contemplation, that is not what it is meant for. It brings together, on a large scale, galerists, artists and collectors; it is about seeing and being seen (at least at the opening), international representation, and – last but not least – the selling of art. The art herself, as could not be different at an event of this size, is very varied. More or less everyone can be sure to find something to his or her liking.
Vienna Contemporary is large, maybe even a little bit exhaustingly so, but who is interested in art in Vienna, should at least once have had a glance at it.
