Jakob Lena Knebl: Oh...
Jakob Lena Knebl´s show at the Mumok is very refreshing. It extends to two levels of which the first one is more theatralic with its dimmed light and stage-like sequences. The artist presents pieces of the museum´s collection as well as her own work in which she refers to the rather classical collection pieces and thus adds new layers of meaning to them.
This rejuvenation is especially wholesome for some Minimal Art work: presented in living room scenes they lose their aura of sacrality and become more tangible and approachable again.
This exhibition keeps no distance of respect and shows that art is first and foremost playful. No need to be frightened!
