Laura Slavinskaite

Schleifmühlgasse 12-14 is an artist-run gallery. Their main focus lies rather on networking and the realisation of complete projects than mere commercial profit.

Momentarily they show an exhibition of pictures by young Lithuanian painter Laura Slavinskait?, curated by Karolis Guzas.

Laura Slavinskait? works with motives from her own surroundings, from her own thoughts and considerations: a young woman in today´s interplay of conflicting notions, searching and feeling her way, but manifest and with a voice of her own.

On first view her oil paintings appear colourful and nice, of a kind one might have seen already before. They own a stronger sense of uncanniness, though, which renders the cheerful atmosphere fragile - an impression further enhanced by the „Soul Gallery“-paintings. This oil-on-paper series, which I personally find formally most interesting, because most open, provides - as ghosts of history past - a strong anti-pole to the colourful works on canvas representing contemporary conditions.

A small but selceted exhibition of pictures by a very versatile painter.
